This week on the podcast we talked with Robert Linden and Tyrell Good From the web series Zhon: The Alien Interviews.

Zhon tells the story of a young looking man with special powers who walks into an office of the United States Secret Service claiming to be an ancient extraterrestrial alien and demands to be interviewed. After proving that he can disappear at will he insists that he will only be interviewed by Amanda Bella, the beautiful host of a daytime talk show. He begins to tell his version of Earth’s history.

What are some projects you have worked before this?

I have been working on short films since I was in junior high. The first big project I worked on was the feature length Zombie movie my classmates and I did for our senior thesis film. It’s called Dorm of the Dead and you can find it on Amazon.com: http://amzn.com/B006J75ZSU. I also worked on Sam Mendes’ Away We Go (2009), Christopher Neil’s Goats (2012), and Annie Howell and Lisa Robinson’s Small, Beautifully Moving Parts (2011).

What is the biggest obstacles you have had to overcome in your life?

I had to overcome OCD when I was in junior high and high school which was a big feat mentally. I also didn’t learn to read proficiently until third grade, but I quickly made up for lost time.

What upcoming events in your life are you looking forward to?

I am going to the Czech Republic for the eighth time this summer to run an English and sports camp for high school students.

What was your life like growing up?

It was a struggle, at least financially. My family was very poor and we lived in a very bad part of town, but I was blessed with a good, loving family. I have two brothers and we are very close. I’m the middle child. I was a really active kid and had a wild imagination. I used to play Karate with my friends at school. Eventually I started seriously studying martial arts. While my family and friends paid attention to sports I was always off doing my own thing, drawing, music, anything that let my imagination fly free. At the age of three I was diagnosed with Juvenile diabetes. As a kid that was a hard. Getting monitored all the time, blood draws and having to be careful about what I did and what I ate. By middle school I was in the hospital at least every week. I think it was hardest on my parents, actually. They love me so much and they had to be on top of it all the time. Despite all of that, when I announced I wanted to go into the entertainment industry at the age of 14, my whole family supported me in that dream. My mom drove me to auditions and meetings. My whole family came to every performance. They are just awesome.

When you are not creating a web series, what do you do?

I take care of my two wonderful children, train others in professional wrestling and of course wrestle myself. I’m a stand-up comic, a dancer, and I run a small movie fight team I call “Lights Out Cinema Fight Choregraphy” and for a little fun I LOVE karaoke.

How did you get into the film industry?

When I was in elementary school I did my first play and was bitten by the acting bug. At age 14 I heard a radio commercial for a talent agency and auditioned and got my first agent. They sent me on a bunch of auditions for films. I was an extra in a basket ball movie, a Small one I doubt you’ve ever heard of, in fact I don’t even remember the name of it (laughs). I kept doing a lot of work as an extra. I think my first real speaking role was actually in “Penitence” and I still think it’s some of my best work. The director, Jason Urban must have liked me because he has since called me personally for other work.

What was your life like growing up?

I had the charmed life of a suburban child. I was told I could be anything I wanted to be when I grew up - so I just avoided growing up in order to put off the decision. I spent a lot of years pretending to play sports until I was seduced away from reality by the theater. I also played with puppets a lot.

How did you get into the film industry?

Accidentally. My friends and I were tired of playing by everyone else's rules. We had started writing together as an exercise to keep us artistically sharp - but it soon began to morph into a show. Finally, we decided we had something unique to share and became determined to find the means to do so. So we did.

Andrew Dahl
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a sleepy little town on the coast of California called Carmel. Some people know it because Clint Eastwood was briefly mayor there in the 80s.

I've been primarily a theater actor before The Digressions. I went to grad school at The Old Globe theater in San Diego where I did a lot of Shakespeare, and since then I've done several plays in New York and around the country

We had a fantastic time talking with Tyler J Hill, Creator of the Web Series Glitch. From the moment we hit record the conversation flowed. Glitch is a twenty-something video game tester going through a quarterlife crisis, you know how it is. And then he makes a bad wish at a perfectly timed moment that, because this is a tv show, totally comes true! Well, it half-totally comes true. He wishes his life was more like a video game, and what he gets are bugs and glitches infecting his real life.

Glitch the Series is a love-letter to nerd culture. Chock full of references and zany misadventures, Glitch goes through the hero’s journey that helps him accept his life on the other side.

The best thing about the invention of the web series is that we can be as creative as we want without interference from people that are only looking at the show as a business opportunity.

Here we have a steampunk web series that is a throwback to the silent film era, you know, before we had talkies!

Here’s the synopsis according to their indigogo page.

Our story takes place in a world left behind of modern technology and a world of Steam is the way of life. The story unfolds with a star cross lover’s wedding announcement. But it all goes awry with our mysterious and devious villain. The so called Queen”Victoria Brass” has gone missing. The assistant is abiding to our villains every need. There is laughter, suspense and “Awww, moments” This isn’t your Great, Great, Great Grandmother’s Silent Film.

So go check it out and give ’em a few dimes if you’d like to see more!
